COLUMBUS, Miss. - Owls Softball will finally be back in action this Wednesday against William Carey University with a double-header at 4 and 6 PM. These will be the first away games for the Owls before returning to Don Usher Field on Thursday for an exhibition match.
When asked what he was most looking forward to in his first outing as head coach of the Owls, Coach
Buddy Foster said, "I am excited to see the team back on the field after almost a year. With it being our first game, it will be good to see where we are as a team." Foster continued, "We spent a majority of the preseason continuing to develop a culture. We focused on how we approach practice and developing good practice habits. This, in turn, opens the door for skill improvement."
Echoing her coach, Senior first baseman
Austyn Holden expressed her excitement to be back on the field as well. "We try not to take anything for granted. Every single one of us had our season cut short last year, whether they were seniors graduating high school, from a junior college, or here at the W, all of us experienced the loss of last year. Therefore, no matter how our day is going or how our practice goes, we all go out there and give it our all because we know how precious it is and how easily it can be taken away from us."
The Owls are led by a strong group of upperclassmen, consisting of seven Juniors and eight Seniors, all of which are itching to get back on the field. Led by pitchers,
Kaitlyn Parrish, Mackenzie Denton, and
Amelia Stalter, the team hopes to launch into a winning season.
Due to Covid-19 protocol, William Carey is not allowing visiting fans, but the game can be viewed live:
