COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W Volleyball team, searching for its first win of the Spring 2021 season, will play host to Wallace State Community College – Hanceville Lions in exhibition play this Wednesday in Emma 'Ody' Pohl Gymnasium. This will be the first time that the Owls have seen home action in over a year.
The junior varsity match is set to begin at 2 p.m. and will be immediately followed by a varsity match. Both competitions will air live via
Owls All-Access with live stats.
Each Owl student-athlete and coach will be allowed two guests and must submit names 24 hours before game time to have names added to the pass list. No fans for the visiting team will be allowed.
The W is currently 0-2, with the matches postponed several times due to COVID-19 and severe weather. The Owls opened the season at the Big East Blastoff hosted by Xavier University of Louisiana and suffered 3-0 losses to Xavier and Our Lady of the Lake University.
Iyana Canada, sophomore middle blocker, is ranked fourth in the USCAA in service aces per set with 0.33. The Oakman, Ala. native leads The W in service with two over two matches and leads the team in scoring with 1.42 points per set. Newcomer
Jadelyn Trice is a close second in putting points on the Owls board with 1.25 points per set.
On the defensive side of the net, Briana Huerta-Ramierez leads the team in digs with 11 to average 2.75 digs per set, while veteran defensive specialist
Loren Schmitt has 10 (1.67 per set), so far.
Wallace State is 8-0 this season, and will look to remain undefeated against the Owls, even in the scrimmage play.
