COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W men's soccer will travel to Birmingham, Ala., for its spring debut against Birmingham Southern College on Monday at
Goldfarb Field at Berylson Soccer Park. Kick-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the regular-season start was postponed, and the team's scheduling games have been a task.
Monday's match was originally a home game but will now be on the road because of expected inclement weather. This match will serve as the first of five on the Owls spring schedule. The last time the two teams faced was during the fall 2019 season.
In the last matchup, The W squad fell behind by one in the first half on Sprint Mart Field, and despite a goal by
Kyle Rodriguez for the Owls in the second half, The W fell 2-1.
W goalkeeper
John McGee, two-time USCAA Keeper of the Week in 2019, was credited with saves in the loss.
Since the 2019 season, the Owls have seen a coaching change. First-year head coach
Louis Alexander will make his college coaching debut against the Panthers.
The W ended the 2019 season 7-8-4 with an appearance at the USCAA Division I Soccer National Championship. The Owls went 0-1-1 to place sixth.
The W returns six seniors;
Kyle Rodriguez,
Josh Martin,
Hunter Holdiness,
Bryce Hertl,
Blake Pilgrim, and
John McGee.
