Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Owls Softball was back in action today in Myrtle Beach, after a rest day yesterday. They were able to split the day, losing their first match against Methodist University and winning their second match of the day against Cairn University. The Owls were shut out in Game 1, but then returned the favor in Game 2.
Game 1 (L 6-0)
Kaitlyn Parrish started Game 1 for the Owls, putting in 3.1 innings of work, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Amelia Stalter came in the circle in the bottom of the 4th inning, only allowing 2 hits, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts.
The Owls were not successful in the batter's box against Methodist University, only gathering up 2 hits in the contest. One hit was a single by Jaelynn Palmer, who also collected the only stolen base in the match. Both Austyn Holden and Hannah Hurdle were able to get on base with walks, and the only other hit for MUW came when Iyana Canada got on base with a single in the top of the 6th inning.
Game 2 (W 9-0)
Game 2 for the Owls, against Cairn University, went a lot easier on both sides of the plate. Mackenzie Denton pitched an almost perfect 5 inning game, hitting one batter, striking out 6, and only allowing 1 hit. When asked if she was aware she was pitching a shutout, Denton said "I knew I was pitching a shutout, but after I hit the one batter I wasn't thinking about a perfect game or a no hitter, just throwing strikes."
Denton's job was a little less stressful due to the success MUW had at the plate. The only inning the Owls did not score in was the 1st inning, but then the gates opened in the bottom of the second, when Anna Kate O'Bryant made it all the way around the bases on a throwing error by the 3rd baseman and scoring Jessica Deming as well. Maddy Suggs went 3 for 3 at the plate in Game 2, with 3 singles, 1 RBI, and a stolen base. Austyn Holden went 2 for 3 at the plate, with 2 singles and 2 RBIs. Lauren Duckworth also went 2 for 3 with 2 singles, 1 RBI, and 2 stolen bases.
The Owls will be back in action tomorrow at 11 AM and 1 PM EST against Cairn University. Be sure to stay updated with all things Owls Softball by checking out owlsathletics.com.
