Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 The Owls fought two hard matches against Malone University on their last day in Myrtle Beach, unfortunately coming up short in both contests. However, Coach Foster was pleased with the efforts of his team in the sixth day of play.
"I am so proud of this team today, despite a couple of tough losses. We faced a really good Division 2 team and went toe to toe with them. Our pitching was stellar in both games, with all three once again rising to the occasion and setting the tone for the team. I am also really proud of Marley Poole, she caught both games and called a phenomenal game in both. Offensively, we struggled at times, but the fight I saw in our at bats was exactly what I have been looking for out of our hitters. Despite dropping both games, the way we played today is who I want and expect us to be." Â
Game 1 (L 5-0)
In Game 1, Amelia Stalter started for the Owls. Stalter pitched 4 innings, allowing 5 runs on 9 hits, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. Coming in to hold the Pioneers, Kaitlyn Parrish pitched the final 2 innings. Parrish finished with 1 walk, 1 strikeout, and gave up 2 hits.Â
Offensively, the Owls struggled adjusting to Malone's pitcher, who struck out 16 MUW batters. The only hit of the game was by Iyana Canada, who reached first on a single.Â
Game 2 (L 6-3)
Game 2 seemed to be a pitcher's battle, with Mackenzie Denton pitching all 7 innings for the Owls. Denton completed the game with 4 strikeouts, 6 walks, and 6 runs on 6 hits.Â
Helping herself out, Denton scored the tying run for the Owls in the bottom of the 5th inning, bringing in Jessica Deming on a single. The Owls took the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning, with Lauren Duckworth scoring on a throwing error by the third baseman, which brought Jessica Deming to third after stealing second. Stepping into the box, Marley Poole singled and scored Deming, putting the Owls ahead by 2 runs. Despite being ahead, the Owls dropped the ball in the top of the 7th inning, letting the Pioneers score 5 unanswered runs.Â
MUW Softball will be back at home, facing Stillman College at Don Usher Field on Tuesday, March 16 at 3 PM. For more information and updates on all things MUW Athletics, check out owlsathletics.com.Â
