Box Score 2 TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Owls softball sweeps Stillman College in doubleheader action on Friday, April 2 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The W grabbed an 8-3 victory in game one and closed the day, defeating the Tigers 4-1.
GAME ONE (W, 8-3)
Kaitlyn Parrish received her third win of the season, pitching the entire 7-inning first game. The Attalla, Ala. native faced 34 batters for 11 hits against, three earned runs, two walks, and four strikeouts.
Junior
Jessica Deming and sophomore
Iyana Canada led the Owls at the plate to head the offensive effort. Deming went 2-for-5 at the plate for three RBIs, while Canada had a 3-for-4 appearance with two RBIs.
The Owls came out the game hot, racking up two runs in the first, two runs in the second, and one run in the third.
Stillman scored its first run in the bottom of the third to cut the Owls lead to 5-2. The W scored again in the top of the fifth and added its final two runs in the top of the second.
The Tigers concluded their scoring with one run in the sixth and one run in the seventh to give the Owl the 8-3 victory.
GAME TWO (W, 4-1)
MacKenzie Denton took the circle for the Owls in game two for her fifth win of the season. The Pontotoc, Miss. native, pitched the entire 7-inning game to face 30 batters for six hits against, one earned run, two walks, and four strikeouts.
Senior infielder
Hannah Hurdle stepped up to lead The W offense. The Lamar, Miss. native went 1-for-3 at the plate for three RBIs. Canada,
Megan Cummins, and Denton added two hits each to the effort, with Cummins adding an RBI.
Feeling the momentum from the first game victory, the Owls scored three runs in the top of the first. Stillman answered with its only run in the bottom of the inning, and The W scored its last run in the top of the fourth.
The Owls will be back in action on Tuesday, April 6, when they travel to Marion, Ala. to face fellow USCAA-institution Judson College. The first pitch for the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
