MOUNT BERRY, Ga. -   Mississippi University for Women will take the wraps off of its 2021 roster when the team competes at the Berry College Tournament on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 3-4). The Owls will open versus Maryville (Tenn.) College on Friday (4:30 p.m.), before facing host Berry on Saturday (11 a.m.) and Sewanee (4 p.m.) at the Cage Center.
 
The W volleyball program is coming off of having its 2020 fall season pushed to the spring of 2021 and abbreviated to 17 matches.
 
The W's first-year Head Volleyball Coach Haley Hensley will have an extremely youthful roster when her team takes the floor at Berry. The Owls have just two seniors (academically), zero juniors, eight sophomores and 11 freshmen.
 
"I am super excited to see what this group of girls can do," Hensley said. "This weekend will test our mental game just as much as our physical game. I see great things happening for this team!"
 
Hensley returns three of the team's top four leaders in assists. The trio includes: Camryn Johnson (2.35 assists per game), Evelyn Pruitt (2.30 a.p.g.) and Karmen McCrory (2.20 a.p.g). Pruitt was also second on the club with 10 aces and a .905 serve receiving percentage in the shortened 2020 season.
 
The attack is where Hensley's Owls will need to develop depth, with Jadelyn Trice the only returnee to average more than one kill per game (1.05 k.p.g.) in 174 total attacks. Trice also averaged .20 blocks per game.
 
Defensively, The W brings back sophomore libero/defensive specialist Briana Huerta-Ramirez. As a freshman in 2020, Huerta-Ramirez averaged 3.38 digs per game.
