Box Score TOCCOA FALLS, Ga. – The Mississippi University for Women men's soccer team won its third-consecutive match by defeating Toccoa Falls College, 3-1, on the road. The win helped the Owls improve to 4-6-2 on the year.
The W dominated the Screaming Eagles (0-7-1) on the attacking half. MUW posted a total of 22 shot attempts to eight by Toccoa Falls. Owl goalkeeper
David McCutchen had three saves for the afternoon.
MUW had the lone goal of the first half in the 22nd minute.
Alfredo Marin tallied his first goal of the season, with the assists going to
Pedro Santana and
Tres Ray, to make it 1-0.
The majority of the second stanza was a back-and-forth for the first 35 minutes. In the 81st minute, Santana scored what would be the match-winning goal, with
DJ McElroy and Ray assisting to make it 2-0.
Four minutes later, Ray gave MUW some insurance with his second goal of the year in the 85th minute to up the margin to 3-0. The Screaming Eagles finally got on the board in the 89th minute for the 3-1 final score.
Joseph Cumberland led MUW with five shot attempts. Santana and Ray each managed four attempts.
"We had a tough game today against an opponent that worked hard the entire game," The W Head Coach
BJ Pheasant said. "It was a little frantic at the end, however, if we took our chances early then we wouldn't be in that situation. Looking forward to another quality opponent (Warren Wilson) on Saturday in North Carolina."
