Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Despite battling tough in each set, the Mississippi University for Women volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss at Rhodes College. MUW fell to 7-10, while the Lynx improved to 7-9 on the season, losing by set scores of 25-20, 25-17, 25-18.
In the opening set, the Owls were within two points, 19-21, late before Rhodes closed out the set on a 4-1 run. In the second set, matters were tied at 11-11, but the Lynx went on a 7-0 spurt to pull away.
In the final set, The W led 9-5 – its largest lead of the night, thanks to a block by
Hannah Duran and
Jasmine Kelly - before the Lynx prowled back and took control down the stretch.
Maggie Griggs led MUW's attack with 10 kills, the only Owls' player in double-figure kills.
Amonie Silas added six kills and
Llayne Skinner five.
In all, Rhodes had 75 kills, while the Owls mustered 55. Rhodes hit .171 for the match and the Owls countered at .116.
Libero
Maddy Suggs led the backrow with 21 digs. Duran had 11 digs, to go along with a team-leading 13 assists. Fellow setter
Camryn Johnson chipped in 11 assists.
Kelly and Silas had three and two blocks, respectively. Kelly also served up all three aces by The W team.
The W will have a few days respite before returning to action on October 14 for a tri-match at Belhaven University. The Owls will also play Maryville College that day in Jackson.
