Box Score MONTGOMERGY, Ala. - Mississippi University for Women men's soccer team and Huntingdon College could resolve nothing in the 90 minutes on the pitch, playing to a 1-1 draw. The Owls (0-2-2), by virtue of the tie, snapped a three-match losing streak versus the Hawks (1-3-1) dating back to 2018.
"We played our style of ball control soccer for large stretches of the game," MUW Head Coach
BJ Pheasant said. "It was a step forward for the team. Unfortunately, we didn't take advantage of the opportunities we created and a late mistake at the back cost us a result."
MUW and Huntingdon each took nine shots, overall. The Hawks put six on-goal, while MUW had two attempts on frame.
Owls' goalkeeper
David McCutchen collected five saves in the match.
Defense was the order of the day, as the teams went into the halftime locker room at 0-0. That continued for the first 22 minutes of the second stanza, as well.
Then, in a span of less than three minutes, all of the match's scoring would take place.
The W posted the first tally of the night.
Alejandro Pocasangre netted his team-leading second goal of the season at the 77:22 mark of the match. In all, Pocasangre took two shots.
But at 79:19, the Hawks put in a score of their own to make it the 1-1 final score and deny MUW of its first win of 2022.
Terrell Johnson had three shot attempts to lead MUW.
The Owls will next host Pensacola Christian College on Saturday (Sept. 17) at the Lowndes County Soccer Complex. The match is slated for a 2:00 p.m. start.
