Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Mississippi University for Women volleyball team capped off what was, arguably, its toughest stretch of the 2022 season with 3-0 setback at NCAA Division II University of Arkansas-Monticello. Playing their fifth match in eight days, the Owls (6-9) lost to the Blossoms (8-9) by set scores of 25-13, 25-10, 25-14.
The W fell to 2-2 in matches versus NCAA II schools in 2022 with the loss. As was the case on Monday evening – when the Owls lost to another NCAA II team at Ouachita Baptist – the team struggled to generate any offensive attack versus UAM.
The Blossoms out-hit The W with 40 kills to 11 by the visitors. Likewise, MUW was out-dealt in service aces by a 10-4 margin.
Sophomore
Micaela Hudgins collected three kills to top the Owls' team. She also hit .250 for the afternoon.
With low kill totals, set assists were at a premium, as well, with
Karmen McCrory's seven leading MUW. Libero
Maddy Suggs had 13 digs to lead the back row players.
Jasmine Kelly had two blocks, both of the solo variety. Four players –
Maggie Griggs, Suggs,
Sydney Horel and
Camryn Johnson – each had one service ace, apiece.
The W will next host Tougaloo College on Tuesday (Oct. 4) at Pohl Gym. Start time is slated for 6 p.m.
