Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Mississippi University for Women men's soccer side came out on the wrong end of a 9-0 decision versus unbeaten Rhodes College. The Owls fell to 1-6-2 on the season, while the Lynx improved to 5-0-3.
The combination of a Rhodes team averaging 3.11 goals per game and an injury-depleted MUW roster – including its starting goalkeeper (
David McCutchen) – made for a long afternoon for The W. RC led 4-0 at the intermission.
Defensively, MUW could not penetrate a Lynx defense that is allowing less than 0.33 goals per game. The Owls were unable to even register a shot, with Rhodes peppering the MUW defense with 22 shots in all (14 on frame).
The W reserve goalkeeper – All-American defender
Jacob Vickers – was credited with five saves.
The Owls will see if some "home cooking" can right the ship on Saturday (Oct. 1), when they host Huntingdon College. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at the Lowndes County Soccer Complex.
