Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The W volleyball started off its three-game St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) weekend road trip with a 3-0 loss at Webster University. The Owls fell to 2-10 overall (0-7 SLIAC), while the Gorloks are now 9-9 (3-4 SLIAC).
In the first set, Webster effectively ran away with the set early. In set one, the Gorloks had scoring runs of five and eight points to lead 15-3 and completed the set in 18 minutes. It wasn't as much as what WU did but, rather, what the Owls did to themselves. Nine attack errors in the set led to a negstive-.073 attack average for MUW.
The Owls got their attack average into positive territory in the second set, despite dropping the set. In set three, MUW was within three, 15-12, after an
MC Brown kill. But the visitors would get no closer as Webster closed out the set and match.
Brown finished with a team-leading nine kills and a .152 attack average. Brown also help out on defense with seven kills and a block.
Megan Neeb added six kills and a team-leading 12 digs. Neeb also had MUW's lone service ace of the match.
Madison Kelly chipped in 11 digs. Setter
Hannah Duran had 10 digs and 19 assists.
The Owls will have to put the setback behind them quickly, with a SLIAC tri-match set for Saturday morning in St. Louis at Fontbonne University. The W faces host Fontbonne at 10 a.m. and then takes on Spalding (Ky.) University at 12 p.m.
