COLUMBUS, Miss. - The W has had four individuals –
Hannah Duran,
Madyson McBrayer,
Jamya Fondren, and
Bailee Schmitt - honored on the 2024-25 Academic All-District® Volleyball Team, it has been announced. The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Volleyball Team is selected by the College Sports Communicators, recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
(The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.)
To earn Academic All-District® honors, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing, and hold a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average.
Duran (Madison, Miss./Germantown H.S.) was a senior setter for the Owls. Duran averaged 5.77 assists per set in 2024, while also ranking second on the squad in service aces with 23. She also topped the MUW defensive efforts by amassing 202 digs (2.56 per set).
Duran finished her career at The W in 2024 by setting the modern-era season record for assists (456) and assists per set (5.77), in her 79 sets played. She also departs as the career leader for matches played (93), total assists (1,185), and assists per set (4.07) over her four seasons, 2021-24.
McBrayer (Columbus, Miss./New Hope H.S.), a sophomore outside hitter, had her best year as an Owl with an average of 1.56 kills per set. McBrayer was second on The W in total attacks (449), fourth in total digs (116/1.49 d.p.s.), and sixth in blocks (18).
Fondren (Oxford, Miss./Regents School), a junior right-side hitter, is in her second season as an Owl, after transferring in from Pearl River Community College last year. Fondren rolled up 21 total blocks and 48 kills in 2024.
The sophomore libero/defensive specialist Schmitt (Long Beach, Miss./Long Beach H.S.) was fifth on the team for service aces, with 13. Schmitt finished third on the squad for total digs, at 169 (2.56 d.p.s.). She ranked second in total reception attempts (361) and posted an impressive .909 receiving percentage for 2024.
