LEXINGTON, Ky. – The W volleyball team has garnered the prestigious Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for the 2024-25 campaign, it has been announced. The Owls program has earned the AVCA honor for six consecutive seasons, dating back to 2020.
"We are incredibly proud and honored to receive the AVCA Team Academic Award for the sixth consecutive year," MUW Head Coach Breylee Linder said. "Our program strives for excellence in all areas, so consistently being recognized as a top academic program is a reflection of the work ethic, discipline, and accountability our players bring to every part of their experience."
Volleyball programs from across the country continue to prove their dominance off the court as 1,450 collegiate and high school volleyball teams maintained a year-long grade-point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale), to earn the 2025 AVCA Team Academic Award. The W's squad notched a 3.65 cumulative GPA for 2024-25.
"It is very exciting to see that the record-setting, on-court successes during the 2024-25 season have extended to the classroom," AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon added. "The fact that more programs earned the Team Academic Award than ever before is evidence of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their goals as both students and athletes."
The Owls' 2024-25 roster produced a total of five SLAIC All-Academic Team selections, four College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honorees, and nine Athletic Director Honor Roll placements.
