BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The W freshman sprinter
Keegan Strong (Ripley, Miss./Ripley H.S.) had quite a memorable first meet as a college student-athlete. And his week was capped by being selected as the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Player of the Week for men's indoor track and field, it was announced.
Competing at the Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker – contested at the CrossPlex – last Friday (Dec. 6), Strong set a pair of school records. Just a few minutes into the meet, running in the 60-meter preliminaries, Strong blazed to a time of 7.03 seconds. That eclipsed the previous mark of current teammate
Jourden Whitfield (7.23).
Then, in the afternoon portion of the meet, Strong ran in the 200-meters. Strong crossed the line at 22.61 seconds, swiping another record from Whitfield (who had the previous standard of 22.79), and etching his name on the Owls' leaderboard once again.
"I'm excited for this young man," MUW Head Coach
Dedrick Burnett gushed. "He has so much upside. Keegan has a bright future here at The W; this is just the beginning of a great college career."
