CLINTON, Miss. – The W cross country teams ran their final tune-up before the SLIAC championships, by competing at the Mississippi College Watson Collegiate Classic. The Owls women's team placed 18th and the men's squad was 23rd.
In the ladies' six kilometer race, it was junior
Hannah Owens topping MUW with a 68th place finish among the 168-runner field. Owens covered the course in a time of 25:44.2 minutes
(just two seconds off of her own school record pace).
It was also Owens' 16th-consecutive race – every event she has run for The W in her career – as the Owls' top finisher.
Destini Simmons was MUW's next finisher at 30:12.2 minutes (137th). Simmons was followed by
Rebecca Aday at 33:36.7 (156th),
Kymani Smith at 36:47.5 (162nd), and
Jaliyah Fung at 37:46.5 (165th).
In the men's eight-kilometer race, MUW newcomer
Jarvis Sellers was the Owls' leader. Sellers crossed the line in a clocking of 31:42.2 minutes, good for 179th place out of the 214-runner field.
Noel Kellum,
Sam Lamy,
Javaris Roberts, and
Jaylin Shelton all came across the line in close proximity. Kellum finished at 35:08.1 (195th), Lamy at 35:33.8 (197th), Roberts at 36:40.8 (199th), and Shelton at 36:48.5 (201st).
Bryson Boler finished at 39:22.2 minutes (209th), to wrap up MUW's lineup.
The W next competes at the SLIAC championships on November 1 in St. Louis, Mo.
