JACKSON, Miss. – The W women's basketball's dynamic duo of
Conley Langford and
Mia Bowen both registered double-double games to lead the 57-55 win over Huntingdon College, at the Millsaps Thanksgiving Classic at the Hanger Dome. The non-conference victory was not only the Owls' (1-5) first win of the young season, but also the program's first-ever over the Hawks (0-4), in the six meetings of the series (which began in 2018).
Langford scored 15 points and hauled in 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the season and added to her on-going school-record, as the 17th of her MUW career. Langford also had four assists and a pair of steals.
Bowen chipped in 14 points and pulled down a season-high 15 rebounds. Bowen also blocked four shots, giving her 21 in just six games…already an Owls' season record (was 16). Bowen, who set the tone for 2025-26 with a school single-game record seven blocks in the season opener, is now just one block shy of matching The W's modern era career record (22 by Hannah Duran from 2021-23), blocking at least two opponent shots in every game this season, thus far.
Fantasia Wilson nearly joined Langford and Bowen's double-double club versus Huntingdon, tallying eight points and grabbing 13 caroms, as MUW out-rebounded HC by a 58-50 margin, a season-best in rebounds for the Owls. Teammate
Bo Ciimban also booked eight points, hitting 3-of-5 from the field.
MUW started out fast versus the Hawks, leading 18-11 after one quarter and expanding that to 33-24 at the intermission. Huntingdon made a big run in the third quarter, slicing their deficit to 45-44 heading into the final period. But The W fought off the Hawks in the final stanza and never relinquished the lead to lock down win number one of the season.
The W will take on Austin College on Sunday (Nov. 30/1 p.m.) in its second game of the Millsaps Thanksgiving Classic. Austin College (2-2) lost to host Millsaps, 56-44, on Saturday.
