GREENVILLE, Ill. – The W track and field teams capped the 2024-25 season at the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Outdoor Championships on Friday and Saturday. The Owls women's team finished third and the men's squad fifth, in the final team standings.
In all, MUW's teams earned a combined 12 medals. Among them a pair of championship golds (one each for women and men), seven silvers, and three bronze finishes.
The W was also honored with two major awards.
Brooklyn Kelley was tabbed as the women's field event Freshman of the Year. Men's hurdler
Cortland Earl was voted the men's track events Freshman of the Year.
Kalee Sanders and
Noel Kellum were selected for the All-Sportsmanship Teams for women and men, respectively.
The women's first place award went to sophomore
Hannah Owens. Owens repeated as the winner of the SLIAC's grueling 10,000-meter run, finishing in a time of 43:27.00 minutes on Friday evening. Owens also set a school record on Saturday morning in the 5,000 meters in a clocking of 20:27.51 minutes, good for a second place in the event.
Sophomore thrower
Arie'Onna McCollum earned a pair of silver medals. McCollum was second in the women's discus with a school-record heave of 35.34 meters. She was also the runner-up in the javelin with a throw of 33.98 meters.
Fellow thrower Kelley broke her own record in the women's shot put – and placed second – with a toss of 11.82 meters.
Freshman
Princess Lofton brought home a silver in the women's 400-meter hurdles. Lofton crossed the line in a time of 1:11.68 minutes.
MUW picked up a pair of third place finishes in the relays. In the 4x100 – run by Maraiah Shannon,
Michaiah Adams,
Vonisha Towns, and Kelyise Faulkner – then Owls f9nished at 50.01 seconds. Meanwhile, the 4x400 quartet – Lofton, Towns,
Kamiyah Whiting, and Adams – clocked in with a school-record time of 4:19.24 minutes.
On the men's side, it was Earl winning the lone men's gold medal in the 110-meter high hurdles in a school-record time of 15.60 seconds. Sophomore teammate
Allen Fields finished second to Earl in a time of 15.98.
Earl also set a school record for the 400-meter hurdles, and placed third for the SLIAC, in a time of 58.06 seconds.
Kellum had The W's other medal, uncorking a school-record throw of 39.00 meters in the men's discus. That was good enough to earn Kellum the silver medal for the event. Kellum also set a school mark in the javelin – placing fourth – with an effort of 46.26 meters.
Two other MUW men also set school records at the SLIAC championships. Freshman
Malachi Stafford cleared 1.86 meters in the high jump (besting his own previous record of 1.85m), finishing fourth, overall. In the men's triple jump, sophomore
Sinaj Lynn leaped 12.81 meters for his MUW record, finishing fifth in the SLIAC results.
