CARROLLTON, Ga. – The W track and field continued to tune up for its upcoming conference outdoor championships, by competing at the University of West Georgia Legends Invitational meet. The Owls' women placed 12th and the men 16th, while setting three school records along the way.
Sophomore
Arie'Onna McCollum picked up the lone women's record in the discus, with a heave of 33.47 meters. He effort is the fifth-best toss in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) this season, placing ninth overall. McCollum was also fifth place in the javelin, with a throw of 32.32 meters (her first throw of her series).
Sophomore
Hannah Owens ran the SLIAC's best time in the 5000-meter run, crossing the line at 21:06.11 minutes. She was fourth, overall, in the race.
The Owls' other top-10 finish was by
Hali Sinegal in the triple jump. Sinegal leaped to a mark of 10.89 meters, placing sixth.
On the men's side of things, freshman
Cortland Earl lowered his school record – and SLIAC leading - time in the 400-meter hurdles by hitting the tape in a time of 58.61 seconds. Earl was 10th in the race at the Legends meet.
Noel Kellum was 12th in the men's discus, but threw a school record distance of 36.92 meters on his third attempt of the day. Kellum's toss ranks second in the SLIAC.
Kellum also finished seventh in the javelin, and moved into third on the SLIAC performance list, with a throw of 44.05 meters.
