SLIAC Women’s Golf Coaches Poll: Owls fly up to #5 spot

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced its 2025 Women's Golf  Coaches Poll, with The W ranked in fifth place. Perennial power Grinnell College topped the poll.

Grinnell College received 81 total points, including nine first-place votes as the overwhelming preseason favorites. The Pioneers return seven All-Conference golfers, headed up by Player of the Year Meilin Hoshino and Freshman of the Year Waverly Yang. Hoshino, a junior, is a two-time SLIAC individual champion and set a conference record last year with a 74.2 scoring average. Yang earned All-Conference honors in her first season, becoming the fourth consecutive Pioneer to win Freshman of the Year. The talent runs throughout the roster with All-American Kavya Keshav as well as three-time All-Conference performers Vidushi Keni and Amy Nguyen. Sara Meneses, Emily Lackershire, and Saya Geisendorfer were also on the conference championship leaderboard last year.

Lake Forest College has finished second at the SLIAC Championships in each of the last two seasons and is picked 2nd in the preseason poll with 73 total points and one first-place vote. Ashlyn Bhatia earned Second Team All-Conference honors last fall and held an 85.2 average for the season, and is joined at the top of the lineup by Sydney Foulon. Libby Hearst showed promise as a freshman last fall, carrying an 82.8 average. Also back are Alijah Campbell and Amanda Adley. Head Coach Tamlyn Tills is excited to bring freshman Eva Kennedy into the fold.

Spalding University was picked 3rd with 56 total points. The Golden Eagles and head coach Jeff Nelson will be in a rebuilding mode after losing the majority of their team to graduation. Bailey Birdsell will be leaned on to carry the team. The senior held an 85.4 average last season with a low round of 75.

Illinois College sits in 4th place on the poll with 51 total points. Head Coach Jay Rowell will build his lineup around senior Emily Guest and junior Shelby Seiler. Seiler held an 85.5 average last fall while Guest carded an 87.8 average for the year. The program welcomes five golfers, including Macie Petropolous.

MUW was picked 5th in the poll, totaling 50 points. After just sending individuals to the SLIAC tourney last fall, Owls head coach Benji Williams has added players to his program to go along with a strong returning core. Senior Sara Grace Ramey had a career year last year, holding an 85.6 average. Ashley Estabrook, a junior, led the team in scoring average last season and, with a fully healthy season, is expected to better even those numbers. Sophomore Reagan Hammack ended her fall with her three best rounds coming in the championship and is expected to use that experience coming into 2025. Transfers Addie Campbell and Isa Velazquez, as well as freshman Lindsey Reimsnyder, give the Owls depth.

Lyon College accumulated 44 points in the poll after a 5th-place finish at last year's championship. The Scots return Zoe Anderson and Keylee Lyons to lead a large influx of newcomers. Among those newcomers are Avery Fore, Austyn Teufel, Maya Akey, and Jacielynn Crapse.

Monmouth College was picked 7th in the preseason poll with 29 total points. They are coached by Cory Bizarri.

Coming in 8th on the poll was Blackburn College with 25 points. First-year head coach Carter LeRoy takes over the program.

Sitting 9th on the poll is Westminster College with 23 points. The Blue Jays lineup will be built around returner Elle Turner, who paced the team with six top team finishes last season. Newcomers Caylee Anderson, Vera Fosnow, and Rowan Ulvestad will help fill out the lineup for head coach Alex Kueker.

Eureka College wraps up the poll, totaling 17 points. They are coached by Chip Wilde.
