Box Score COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W volleyball hung close to a powerful Millsaps College squad, but would eventually drop a non-conference bout, 3-1, at Pohl Gym. The W (2-6) lost to the Majors (10-4) by set scores of 25-19, 26-24, 23-25, 16-25.
MUW hit .179 for the night, but had its best offensive efforts in sets 2 and 3, producing a .300 and .233 attack average, respectively. MC hit .254 for the match.
Owls' newcomer
Skye Letson led all attackers with 16 kills and a creditable .313 attack average. Letson had just six errors in her 32 attacks.
Teammates
Megan Neeb and
Madyson McBrayer – both New Hope High School alumnae – joined Letson in double-digit kills. Neeb knocked down 15 and McBrayer 12 kills. Each took 43 total swings in the four sets played.
The W setter
Kinsley Kennedy registered 48 of MUW's 50 assists in the match. Libero
Brooklyn Comfort had a team-best 19 digs.
Millsaps held a 6-2 advantage in total blocks. The Majors also had a slim 5-4 cushion for service aces, as well.
The W will open St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday (September 20) at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri. The Owls will face host Webster at 10 a.m. and then Blackburn College at 12 p.m.
