Men's Soccer

Morris’ hat trick makes Toccoa Falls – and Owls’ skid - disappear, 3-1

TOCCOA FALLS, Ga. – Kyle Morris took The W men's soccer team on his back, scoring all of his team's goals, in a 3-1 non-conference road win at Toccoa Falls College. Morris' big match gave the Owls (1-2-0) their first win of the 2025 season and handed the Screaming Eagles (2-1-1) their first loss of the year.

This was the first-ever meeting between the two schools in men's soccer, as well.

"I'm proud of the team for working hard and supporting each other," Owls' Head Coach BJ Pheasant said. "Their mental focus throughout the game led to the first victory of the season."

Morris' "hat trick" was the seventh in Owls' program history and first since October 25, 2021 (when Vini Lopes netted three versus Eureka College). Even more important, it snapped a 23-match winless streak by MUW dating back to October 15, 2023 (a 2-1 victory over LaGrange at the Roger Short Soccer Complex).

"I was glad to get the win," Morris said. "We've been working really hard to improve this season and it's nice to get a result against a good team."

A 0-0 match at halftime was turned TFC's direction early in the second half as the hosts scored in the 49th minute. However, just four minutes later, Morris would go to work.

A deft pass from teammate – and former New Hope High School product - Trey Parnell allowed Morris to knot the match at 1-1 in the 53rd minute of play.

That score stood until the 65:14 juncture. Juan Puga slid a nice pass to Sam Davis, who in turn one-touched the ball to Morris for the goal that put The W on top for good, 2-1.

Another Parnell-to-Morris connection in the 83rd minute gave the Owls some insurance, 3-1, as the game wound down.

The Screaming Eagles outshot MUW by a 15-to-9 margin for the match. But for The W it wasn't a matter of "how many" as much as it was "how". TFC had a total of seven shots on-goal, six of which were saved by MUW goalkeeper Nick Gutierrez. The Owls were ultra-efficient with six of their shots going on frame (67 percent).

All of Morris' four shots went on-goal, with the three besting Toccoa Falls' Brandon Huerta.

The W will stay on the road for another match in Georgia on Sunday, September 7 (11 a.m. CT) versus Piedmont University in Demorest.
