BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The W goalkeeper,
Cam Lopez, has been voted the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) women's soccer Defensive Player of the Week, it has been announced.
Lopez, a senior from Cancun, Mexico, had a stellar match last Saturday versus the SLIAC's unbeaten first-place team, Westminster College. In a tough 3-2 loss, Lopez allowed just one goal during "live action," as the Blue Jays netted the deciding two goals of the contest on penalty kicks, two minutes apart in the early throughs of the second half.
Lopez amassed a season-high 13 saves versus the high-flying Jays. Seven of those saves came in the second half, keeping her team within striking distance of a potential upset.
"I'm very proud of Cam," MUW Head Coach
Valerie Greer said. "She persevered through a lot this year. Especially coming back from injury sustained at the beginning of the season. Her performance this past Saturday was spectacular, and the recognition is well deserved."
