Men's Basketball

Huguley is voted SLIAC’s Male Athlete of the Year

program over the past few years, men's basketball standout Tray Huguley has been voted as the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Male Athlete of the Year for 2025-26, it has been announced. Huguley is the first Owls' student-athlete to be voted the honor, adding to the burgeoning list of accomplishments experienced by MUW's programs in just its first three years as a SLIAC member.

Huguley helped lead The W men's basketball to its first-ever SLIAC tournament championship, and garnering the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III national championship tournament  (also the Owls' inaugural appearance in the NCAA III post-season, as well). Huguley averaged a double-double of 22.7 points and 11.7 rebounds per game, with 18 double-double games, double-digit scoring in all 26 games played, including a school-record 51-point game versus Greenville University on December 6, 2025, and a school-record 22 rebounds versus Southeastern Baptist on January 13, 2026.

For his efforts, Huguley was voted as first-team All-SLIAC and was tabbed as the SLIAC men's basketball Player of the Year, after earning an unprecedented six SLIAC Player of the Week accolades during the season. He was also voted NCAA III all-region by both the National Association of Basketball Coaches and D3Hoops.com.

"This is certainly a well-deserved honor for Tray after such an impressive season," MUW's former head coach - and now Assistant A.D. - Dean Burrows said. "The fact that he came in as a first-year player in our program and was able to produce at a record-breaking pace, as he did immediately, tells you that MUW is a great spot for top players to be successful on the court and in the classroom right out of the blocks.

"And in our 'team-first culture', this kind of an award is more than about just one player; it is literally shared by our entire roster. I'm sure Tray would be the first to acknowledge that fact. People can't forget that when opponents keyed too much on Tray this season, we had lots of other 'weapons' step up and produce successfully."
