DUBOIS, Penn. – The Owls softball team proved that it was the team to watch with a 6-2 victory over Penn State University – Schuylkill in the third round of the USCAA Small College World Series. With Tuesday's success, The W moves on to the elimination round semi-finals.

Cara Hopper, senior pitcher, had another great night on the mound for the Owls. The Steens, Miss. native entered the game in the third inning to throw 4.2 innings for no runs, no hits, and 11 strikeouts.

At the plate, Katlyn Duke hit a single and a triple for a game high of four RBIs. Other Owls standouts were Carolyn "Kendall" Wilkinson, Kristen Martin, and Brianna Duquette who recorded two hits each while Anna Lloyd led the team with two runs.

The W jumped ahead of the Lions 3-0 with a run in the first and two runs in the second on a triple by Duke.

Penn State scored two runs in the third on a double to cut the Owls lead to 3-2.

After the spark in the Lions offense, The W adjusted their defensive strategy and was able to shutout Penn State for the rest of the competition.

In the fifth inning, the Owls added three more runs on the board for good measure. Duquette scored on a fielder's choice and Lloyd and Bailee Watts made it home on another hit by Duke.

"They played another amazing game today," said Head Softball Coach Tatjana Matthews. "Tiffany Phillips started well on the mound for us and Cara came in and finished strong. She threw 11 more K's and stepped up when we needed her to. I am proud of our fight at the plate and how we did it. Tomorrow we have to do the same. [We have to] take it one pitch at a time, one ball at a time, and one play at a time."
