Gilliland Records 11 Saves in 2-0 Loss at ETBU

Box Score

MARSHALL, Texas – The Owls women's soccer team had a tough Saturday afternoon ending its Texas swing with a 2-0 loss at East Texas Baptist. The W found a challenging opponent in the Tigers of ETBU and were unable to prevent the shutout to move 5-3 on the season.

In the first half of the competition, scoring efforts stalled and neither team was able to make it on to the scoreboard. In the second half, ETBU broke the silence with a goal at the 48-minute mark and a second at the 85-minute mark to close the game.

Offensively, the Owls had seven opportunities to score, of which three were on goal. Morgan Dennis and Caroline Grafe led the effort with two shots each while Dennis recorded one shot-on-goal.

Defensively, Owls junior goalkeeper Sarah Gilliland put in major works. She played the entire 90 minutes for a total of 11 saves.

The Owls will be back in action when they bring the game back home on Thursday, Sept. 19. The W will host Belhaven University. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m.
