PARAGOULD, Ark. – The Owls baseball team takes the series against Crowley's Ridge on the road with an 11-4 victory on Saturday afternoon. The W closes the weekend 2-1 against the Pioneers to end the regular season 20-8, ranked second in the USCAA Coaches Poll.
The Owls took the lead early with a single run in the second and double runs in the third. The W continued to score, adding three runs in the fifth before Crowley's Ridge prevented the shutout with a run in the bottom of the inning.
The Pioneers continued to chop away at the Owls lead with three runs in the second, but The W halted their rally with five runs in the top of the eighth to close the game 11-4.
On the mound,
Avery Anderson took the victory for the Owls. The freshman from Hoover, Ala. pitched 7.0 innings for four strikeouts and four earned runs.
Luke Hobson closed the game taking the last two innings, facing seven batters with a single hit against.
At the plate,
Logan Suggs led the Owls with a 3-for-5 appearance for three runs and two RBIs.
Trey Petite also had a successful outing with a 3-for-4 appearance for two RBIs and one run.
Heath Ford,
Damain Benefield, and
CJ Wise also collected two RBIs each to close out The W offensive effort.
The Owls await their post-season fate as they ready for the USCAA Small College World Series Selection Show on Thursday, May 1 at 5:30 p.m. More information about the selection show will be released when it becomes available.
