Box Score GREENVILLE, Ill. - The 2023 Mississippi University for Women women's soccer season came to an end Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) tournament. The No. 6-seed Owls (5-10-0) were defeated by No. 3-seeded – and defending SLIAC tournament champion – Greenville University (9-7-3), 7-0.
And while the result was not what the team was hoping for, there were still plenty of positives on which the team can build for the future. Not the least of which was the program finally competing as a full NCAA Division III and SLIAC member, a post-season bid as a first-year member, and the stellar efforts of so many new faces across its 2023 roster.
But unfortunately for The W, the squad simply did not have an answer for the talent and experience of the quality Panthers side, especially on GU's own pitch. It was the second time that the teams had met in four days, with Greenville winning the regular season finales in Columbus, 3-0, as well.
With the stakes raised in the SLIAC tourney, the Owls found themselves out-shot by a 23-1 margin. The W's lone shot, which was on frame, came from
Seline Decoteau n the second half.
Greenville was able to salt away the game with a flurry of goals in the first half. In a 17-minute span, between the ninth to 26th minutes, GU tallied five times to take a 5-0 lead into the locker room and putting the Owls behind the proverbial eight ball. The Panthers added two more in the final segment.
MUW goalkeeper
Alex Moon had five saves on the night.
