OXFORD, Ala. – Competing against a largely upper-division field, The W cross country teams opened the 2025 season with a couple of key individual efforts. The men's and women's teams placed 20th and 21st, respectively, in the five-kilometer races for both.
For the Owls men's team, it was newcomer
Jarvis Sellers setting the pace. Sellers set an MUW school record by crossing the finish line in a time of 17:39.04 minutes. That eclipsed the previous record – set by Josh Gonsalves in 2002 – by nearly 44 full seconds (18:23.0).
Sellers was 84th out of the 175-runner field.
On the women's side, junior
Hannah Owens kept her streak of being MUW's top finisher – now at 13 straight- of every race she has run for The W alive. Owens hit the tape of the women's 5K in a time of 21:41.36 minutes, good for 91st out 177 competitors. Owens' time was less than three-10ths of a second off of her own 5K school record (set on September 16, 2023)
