CLINTON, Miss. – The W cross country ran its second-consecutive five-kilometer race, for both men and women, at the Mississippi College Opener at the Topper Trails course. The Owls' men's team was 14th, while the women finished 13th.
While no school records fell, solid efforts were the name of the game for Head Coach
Dedrick Burnett's teams. In the men's race, freshman
Jarvis Sellers ran a time of 17:56.63 minutes for his 5K and placed 56th out of the 137-runner field. Seller's has now run back-to-back sub-18 minute times for the 5K and is the only runner in Owls' history to finish under that time.
Noel Kellum was MUW's second finisher in a clocking of 21:41.75 (111th). He was followed by
Sam Lamy (22:51.24/118th), Jarvis Roberts (22:56.89/120th), and
Bryson Boler (24:20.49/124th).
In the women's 5K, there are some things you just know: the sun will rise in the east and set in the west; on or around April 15th you have to file your taxes, and – for the past three seasons –
Hannah Owens will lead The W cross country ladies. Owens, for the 14th time in as many career races for The W, set the pace for the Owls by finishing 32nd out of 98 competitors in a time of 22:02.01 minutes at The Opener.
The balance of the MUW placers included Destini Simmons in 75th (26:52.42), Kymani Smith (85th/29:34.88),
Rebecca Aday (92nd/31:31.63), and Alain Mathis (94th/33:36.62).
