Box Score CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The W women's soccer put forth its most productive attacking statistics of the season in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) match versus Blackburn College on Thursday. Unfortunately, as is often the case in the sport of soccer, it was not enough, as the Owls (2-9-1, 1-4-0 SLIAC) fell to the Beavers (4-6-3, 1-3-1 SLIAC), 1-0, at the Carlinville High School field.
Statistically, MUW was dominant, outshooting BC by a 24-to-4 margin. The W held a 14-2 margin in shots on-goal, playing much of the match in the Beavers' defensive third of the field.
The quartet of seniors
Abby Warchus,
Kiersten Taylor,
Emma Hall, along with freshman
Reagan Shinn, accounted for the bulk of the Owls' offensive thrust. Warchus led all attackers with seven shots, with five on frame. Taylor and Hall each took six tries for the evening, with four and two shots, respectively, on goal. Shinn had three attempts and two on target.
Blackburn goalie Emma Zaidle withstood the Owls' piñata like attack to the tune of 14 saves to preserve her team's shutout. Her MUW counterpart,
Cam Lopez, had one save and permitted the lone goal of the night less than three minutes into the second half, after a 0-0 first half of action.
The W will next play on Saturday (Oct. 17/3 p.m.) at Greenville University.
