COLUMBUS, Miss. -The W junior Marcos Fernandez (Madrid, Spain) has been voted the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) South Division Player of the Week for men's tennis, it has been announced.   

Fernandez, a junior transfer from Wallace State Community College, won both of his singles matches last week. Playing the number five singles position, Fernandez took both victories in straight sets, as well.

Versus UMAC South favorite Greenville University, Fernandez was a 6-2, 6-2, winner over the Panthers' Francisco Trujillo Garcia. On Saturday, facing Webster University's Shawn Smith, Fernandez rolled to a 6-3, 6-1, victory.

In doubles, Fernandez split on the week, losing to GU and then defeating the Gorloks' tandem at No. 2 pairs play.

On the year, Fernandez improved to 9-2 in singles matches and is 8-3 in doubles action.
