COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls softball team shutout Rust College in Military Appreciation Day doubleheader on Saturday, March 31. The W moves to 16-13 on the season with the back-to-back victories.

Game One (W, 15-0)

Owls starting pitcher, Madison Scoggin, received her sixth win on the mound in the 15-0 victory over the Bearcats. The junior lefty pitched 4.0 innings for seven strikeouts, one hit, no walks, and no runs.

Ciara Steward, junior pitcher, entered the game in the top of the fifth in relief to pitch 1.0 innings for three strikeouts, no runs, no hits, and no walks.

Hitting her first homerun of the season, junior utility player Katlyn Duke led The W in RBIs. The Philadelphia, Miss. native went 1-for-3 at the plate for one run and five RBIs.

Carolyn "Kendall" Wilkinson, Owls third baseman, had the most successful outing at the plate with a 2-for-3 appearance with three runs and three RBIs.

Other standout players were Kristen Martin and Heidi Matthews who collected two RBIs each.

Game Two (W, 8-0)

Greenville, Miss. native Tiffany Phillips recorded her first complete game of the season for her second win. The sophomore right-hander pitched 5.0 innings for eight strikeouts, one hit, no runs, and no walks.

The Owls offense was led by junior short stop Bailee Watts and junior right fielder Mackenzie Harris. Watts and Harris both collected two RBIs during their time at the plate. Watts went 2-for2 for one run and Harris went 1-for-1.

The Owls will be back in action on Monday, April 2 when they travel to Huntingdon College. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
