MARION, Ala. – The Owls volleyball team played its best match of the 2018 season at Judson College on Tuesday, Sept. 25. The W pushed back when down to defeat the Eagles in the first five set match of the season, 3-2.
"I am proud that we showed grit and saw ourselves through this match," stated head coach Roxanne Hernandez. "We used leads to our advantage and our middles saw a lot of success. We definitely put ourselves through some rough patches with unforced errors, but it's good to get another win and get some momentum as we look forward to playing at home later this week."
Leading the Owls offensive charge, Tori Weir saw action in all five sets. The sophomore middle blocker put up 38 total attacks with 18 kills to lead her team. The Columbus, Miss. native also recorded two block assist to add a total of 20 points to the Owls scoring effort.
At setter, Madison Lamon put up a season high of 30 assist to aid the Owls offense. The Russellville, Ala. native was also credited with four kills and six service aces for 10 points.
Defensively, Haley McMurphey spent time in the back row for a game high of 15 digs. The natural outside hitter also collected six kills on 19 total attacks with two assist and one service ace.
Other standout Owls were Hannah O'Barr and Kayla King. O'Barr collected four service aces and six kills while King tallied eight kills and one block solo.
After a long first half of the season, The W will finally bring the game home when they host Huntingdon College in the first home match of the season on Thursday, Sept. 27. Thursday's game is dedicated to childhood cancer awareness and the Owls are asking all fans to wear yellow. The entry fee of $5 will be donated to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
